Friar Gate Studios tenants help raise awareness for Men’s Health
Tenants at Friar Gate Studios helped ‘grow’ awareness for men’s health throughout November last year and raised a total of £230!
Bluenectar, Justin Smith Architects and Revolver Revolver all participated in the ‘Movember’ event last November, which saw men all over the world growing a moustache in a bid to raise awareness of men’s health issues.
The rules of ‘Movember’ are simple; men start on November 1st clean-shaven and grow a moustache for the entire month. The moustache signifies a ribbon for men’s health, which aims to raise awareness and funds for cancers that affect men.
Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, the men of ‘Movember’ commit to growing a moustache for 30 days.
‘Movember’ started in Australia in 2003 as a bit of a joke to have fun and do something for men’s health. No money was raised in its first year, but the guys behind it realized its potential. Inspired by all that women had done for breast cancer, the Mo Bros set out to create a global men’s health movement.
Since then, the ‘Movember’ moustache has grown year on year, expanding across the globe.
In 2009, global participation of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas climbed to 255,755, with more than one million donors raising £26 million (GBP equivalent) for ‘Movember’s’ global beneficiary partners.
The funds raised through ‘Movember’s’ UK campaign benefit the Nation’s leading prostate cancer charity, (TPCC).
Commenting on the ‘Movember’ event, Alan Chaffe at Revolver Revolver said:
"I really enjoyed raising money for a great cause, and will be aiming to raise even more by growing something much more ridiculous next November!"
Simon from Justin Smith Architects said:
“That look might work for Magnum PI, but definitely not for me! The wife wasn’t too fond of it either, but it was for a good cause.”
Mark Grey from Bluenectar added:
“It was an unforgettable experience. I had an itchy face for four weeks, endured inane stares from those who weren't in the know and my two-year-old son who wouldn't kiss his Daddy for a whole month!
All said and done, I'd do it again next year without a doubt.”
Ann Bhatti, centre manager at Friar Gate Studios said:
“I am delighted that the tenants at Friar Gate Studios got involved in raising the profile of such important and worthy causes. I couldn’t help but smile every time I saw them and I can imagine how relieved they are to shave again.”
