CACTUS IMAGES HELP Friar Gate Studios tenants raise awareness for Men’s Health

A local photography company will be helping tenants at Friar Gate Studios ‘grow’ as much awareness for men’s health as possible throughout November, as they take on this year’s ‘Movember’ challenge.

Every week throughout November, Cactus Images will be taking a portrait shot of each participant in the ‘Movember’ challenge to document their progress in growing a moustache in aid of men’s health awareness.

You can donate by visiting www.cactusimages.com/movember and clicking on the person you would like to sponsor.

Justin Smith and David Crane from Justin Smith Architects, Chris Redshaw and Alan Chaffe from Revolver Revolver, Rob Watson from pH9, Lee Flanaghan from Warm and Fuzzy, Jimmy Drew from Boast Sponsorship, Lee Richards from Kozo Lamps and Roger Moggs from Moggs Marketing are all taking party in this year’s ‘Movember’ event, which will see men all over the world growing a moustache to promote men’s health issues.

The ladies are doing their bit too, with Kristen Neilson from Justin Smith Architects and Angela Jenkins from Cactus Images sporting replacement moustaches throughout the challenge.

The rules of ‘Movember’ are simple; men start on November 1st clean-shaven and grow a moustache for 30 days.  The moustache signifies a ribbon for men’s health, which aims to raise funds and heighten the profile of cancers that affect men.

‘Movember’ started in Australia in 2003 as a fun thing to do to promote men’s health. No money was raised in its first year, but the men behind it realized its potential.  Inspired by all that women had done for breast cancer, the ‘Mo Bros’ set out to create a global men’s health movement.

Since then, the ‘Movember’ moustache has grown year on year, expanding across the globe.   In 2009, global participation of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas climbed to 255,755, with more than one million donors raising £26 million (GBP equivalent) for ‘Movember’s’ global beneficiary partners.

The funds raised through ‘Movember’s’ UK campaign benefit the nation’s leading prostate cancer charity (TPCC).

Commenting on the ‘Movember’ event, Chris Howard at Cactus Images said:

"I am delighted to be involved in Friar Gate Studios’ ‘Movember’ project. I hope that the collection of images, showing each participant’s progress every week, will add impact to the project and help generate more interest and donations for such a worthwhile cause.”

Kristen at Justin Smith Architects said:

“Having friends and relatives that have been affected by prostate cancer, the ‘Movember’ challenge is a cause I strongly believe in. I will be getting into the spirit of things personally by sporting a different substitute moustache every week, joined by my Mo Sista, Angela at Cactus Images - and we’re starting off with milk!”

Ann Bhatti, centre manager at Friar Gate Studios added:

“I am delighted that the tenants at Friar Gate Studios have teamed up to help raise the profile of such an important issue. I am looking forward to see their progress through the imagery provided by Cactus.”
